Carcassonne - "La Cité". The walled cité of Carcassonne is certainly worth at least half a day. The cité itself is an attraction, but it is also filled with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, boutiques, displays, The Haunted House, The Museum of Torture, hotels and a backpackers lodge.

Rennes-le-Château - The village of Rennes-le-Château is host to one of France's great mysteries. How did the Priest Saunière become wealthy overnight? Did he discover the Holy Grail? Did he uncover parchments that undermined the Catholic religion, or did he find treasures in the cemetery, perhaps treasures of past cultures or crusades?

Cathars and Their Castles - The Cathars were a religious group who emerged in Europe during the eleventh century. Catharism spread during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Crusades were launched against the Cathars with the genocide concluding in the late fourteenth century. There are many castles and sites within easy reach of La Maison.
